First blog post

Ivory Pearl. That’s me! Or at least a sweet alias anyway. My dear friend Lydia Walters (now Lydia Walters-Bluma thanks to her lovely hubby, Matthew) gifted this name to me back in 2009. We lived in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, working at a private member country club being rockstars just rocking at life. I immediately loved her when we met. Like that kind of love  you just know is going to last forever and even beyond forever. She is one of the rare humans I know I can tell anything to, spill all my guts and then some, and at the end of the day still have an amazing, loving friend. That’s her. During a drive to our nice little ‘mountain’ hike, we were discussing nicknames and it had struck me; I never really had one. I mean sure, ‘Shan’ was popular because people can be lazy, but like a REAL nickname! I was missing out on that. As the day went on, we kept pondering and all of a sudden she blurted out “Ivory Pearl, you know, like the color of your pale ass skin”. We laughed. I thought it was cute. We moved on. The more I said those two words over the course of the last 8 years, the more elegant the name sounded. Classy. Original. Other. I like those things.

Finally, after all these years, Ivory Pearl will make her debut. As a writer, observer, traveler, creator, and love evolutionist, she has arrived. After all, there is no time like the present.

Love Evolutionist. What does that even mean?!? Ideas were being juggled in my brain as I tried to conquer a name for this here blog. I kept circling back to love and evolution and how can we as humans evolve through love or with love or because of love? It became clear to me that this concept is quite complex and is still being developed within my world. So, bare with me as we further develop this theory.

My sweet partner, companion, love bucket of a boyfriend, Mikey and I will be embarking on a 3 month journey to the depths of the unknown on the European continent. Our hope is to conquer 9 ish countries within those months with just one pack on each of our backs. I am ready for a change. To be humbled by people I’ve never met, to struggle through language barriers, to simply see the world through another culture. Yeah, I’m ready for all of that and so much more.

My goal is to write to you all every week encompassing the idea of evolving through love. I am committed to this mission by bringing you stories and photographs of people and places that inspire me in hopes they inspire you too. I feel the need to have this voice be heard now more than ever because I fear the day we no longer know how to feel EMPATHY or to teach COMPASSION or how to share LOVE. Throughout my brief time here on this big ole planet, I have often been referred to as a ‘hippie’ because of my whimsical free spirited nature. I’m okay with that. Definition.com explains people like us as, “a person, especially of the late 1960s, who rejected established institutions and values and sought spontaneity, direct personal relations expressing love, and expanded consciousness, often expressed externally in the wearing of casual, folksy clothing and of beads, headbands, used garments, etc.”. I guess I need to work on my collection of beads and headbands.

Get on out there people. Show the world some love. Be good to one another. Until next time…
